Garbage Disposal Leaking

Why a Garbage Disposal Leaks

A leaking garbage disposal usually points to one of four connection points rather than the unit failing outright. A worn sink flange seal lets water seep between the sink basin and the disposal body, showing up as water pooling under the sink whenever the faucet runs. A cracked disposal housing, often from age or a hard impact, leaks continuously from the body of the unit itself rather than from a joint. A loose drain pipe connection at the discharge tube produces a leak only when the disposal drains, while a worn dishwasher inlet connection leaks specifically when the dishwasher cycles, not during normal sink use. Pinpointing which of these four points is leaking determines whether the fix is a reseal, a gasket replacement, or a full unit replacement.
